Have you spent years looking forward to the day when you would be going to college for the first time? Now that the day is almost here, are you a little nervous and wondering what to expect? If so, you’re not alone because many students go through this experience and it’s quite normal.

It can be scary going to college especially if you move out of your home and live on campus or in an apartment. Everything will be different and new so, it’s natural to be a little scared. Below are a few examples of what you can expect when you go to college to help you prepare a little. This may help the transaction go a little smoother.

• If you live on campus, be prepared to live in a small dorm room with someone else.
• You may feel a little homesick at first but this is natural. Stay on campus as much as possible, especially for the first few weeks. This will help you to adjust to being away from home.
• You may find it a difficult time in which you’re discovering who you really are as a person. This is something most all college students experience.
• You’ll have the opportunity to make new friends and learn many new things.
• You’ll have an RA or resident assistant that you can go to for help if you’re having problems or if you just need someone to talk to.
• It can be easy to get distracted and begin falling behind on your work so be prepared for this and don’t let it happen to you.
• It’s a chance to get to know professors and teachers that have connections with the world outside of college. Take the time to get to know some of these important people and it could help to move your career along a little faster when you graduate.
• College requires a lot of late night studying and work in order to do well and advance. Be prepared for this and make sure you’re ready for the challenge.

Not only is going to college a challenge but it’s also a new experience that you need to embrace. Take advantage of all of the things that college has to offer and you’re sure to be a better person for it. You’ll have the chance to make many new friends and as long as you go to class, study hard and follow the rules, you can greatly benefit from going to college.
